What is it?
Wedding insurance also known as special event insurance, helps protect your special day. Your special day that you have spent so much time, effort, and money planning to make sure that everything is perfect. This is a day you will want to enjoy and be in the moment, a day that will be remembered for the rest of your life. Don’t let anything ruin your day by having the comfort in knowing you are covered!
Wedding insurance can cover unforeseen circumstances that might arise and cause losses as it pertains to your wedding/venue. There are a million things that can go wrong but some of the biggest issues that arise are: vendor problems, venue problems, weather, property damage caused by guests, and damage caused due to liquor consumption.
What does Wedding Insurance Cover?
Wedding / special event insurance can cover a broad spectrum of problems that arise when hosting an event, we will touch on a few main parts of below.
Liability: If a member of your wedding party or guests causes any damage this covers those situations. For example, if your uncle Ron jumps up on the baby grand piano, starts tap dancing, and falls through it! Guess what uncle Ron, that is a $300,000 piano you just fell through!
Liquor Liability: If there is liquor being sold or provided at your event this coverage is for damages that occur because of liquor consumption. For example, if a guest drinks too much and gets into an accident while intoxicated leaving your event.
Postponement/Cancellation: This piece of the policy will cover losses if your event needs to be postponed or cancelled for a covered reason. This can happen because of problems with vendors, venues, or some sort of accident. For example, if your venue were to burn down a week before your wedding.
****COVID 19 is not covered by any wedding/event insurance policies right now but may be available in the future.
Should I buy it Wedding / Special Event Insurance?
Most venues that require special event insurance usually only require the liability portion because they want to make sure if anything goes wrong, they won’t be sued. Sometimes even though they have their own liability coverage they will require you to have your own as excess.
If you are planning a wedding or special event that has a lot of expensive and different moving parts, it is always a great idea to purchase protection. Especially events where alcohol will be served, and the venue will hold YOU responsible for any damage done by guests!
